Omega-3 Fatty Acids: What are they? Explanation as per human body When it comes to the most important fats for a human body, Omega-3 fatty acids secure an important place. They are considered very important and needs to be included in one’s diet. Unfortunately, not many are aware of this fact. Here you can expect information on Omega-3 fatty acids and their working. Know here, why should be taken care of. Omega-3 explained? The short form in respect of Omega-3 fatty acid is Omega-3. It comes under the family of crucial fatty acids which have very significant purpose in the body of human. The problem with these acids is that, they can’t be produced by own, and so they are required to be taken in diet. The most important property of Omega-3 fatty acids is that they are polyunsaturated. It simply means they carry a number of double type bonds in their chemical composition. When it comes to the kind of Omega-3. They are 3 in number. They include, DHA, ALA or EPA. EPA and DHA are found in algae as well as animal foods, whereas ALA is present in plants. Omega-3 fatty acids are considered very important for the proper functinoning of the human body. They also offer a number of essential health benefits. Fish oils, fatty fish, chia seeds, walnuts, flax seeds, flax seed oil are some of the food items that include high omegs-3 fatty acids. People who are diet conscious are recommended to take Omega-3 Supplements e.g. fish oil, processed fish oil, etc. What Omega-3 refer to? Omega refers to the chain of fatty acids in which placements of doubl e bonds is found. There is a extended chain present of carbon atoms in each fatty acid. There is one carbolic acid end which is called as alpha and in addition to this, one is methylend which is known as omega. Alpha lies on left sideend and omega lies on right side end of the chain. There is placement of double bond in the chain which is shown by doubla lines. On the top of the list Omega-3 fat ALA is places and Omega-6 fat ALA is placed on bottom of the list. In omega-3, number 3 refers to the first double bond of the fatty acids. It is situated 3 carbon atoms distant from the end of omega. Same as above in omega -6, 6 refers to double bond of the fatty acids. It is located 6 carbon atoms distant from the end of omega. Conclusion: Omega-3 has the double bond of fatty acids and it is located 3 atoms away from omega. Omega is the placement of double bonds in the fatty acid molecule. There are 3 forms of Omega-3 fatty acids found such as EPA, DHA and ALA. ALA: Alpha- Alpha-linolenic acid is the full name of ALA. It is one of the most widespread omega-3 fatty acids present in diet. Long Chain of ALA contains 18 carbons. This acid is inactive in human bodies and it is required to convert ALA into active form such as EPA and DHA. Conversion of ALA in EPA and DHA is insufficient because only minute number of ALA can be changed into EPA and DHA. Flaxseeds, canola oil, walnuts, soybeans, chia seeds, flaxseed oil and hemp seeds are some sources of ALA. EPA: Eicosapentaenoic acid is the full name of EPA. It is Omega-3 fatty acid which contains 20 carbons in its long chain. Fish oil and Fatty fish are the sources of EPA. Animal and microalgae are the biggest sources which contains large amount of EPA. There are several functions which are handled in human bodies by EPA. It can be transformed in DHA. DHA: DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid is the full name of DHA. It is also a most commonly found acid present in human body. Carbon chain of DHA contains 22 carbons in it. It handles many functions in a human body like retina of eyes, brain functioning and many more. It is also found in fish oils and fatty fish, same as EPA. Source of EPA is also animals like fish. There is sufficient amount of DHA in other products also like dairy products, eggs, meat, etc. Microalgae supplements are available that is the best option for vegetarians who are lacking in DHA. Conclusion: When talking about types of Omega-3 fatty acids, they are three in number such as ALA EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) , (Alpha- Alpha-linolenic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid). Ration between Omega-3: Omega-6 In human body, Omega -6 have also a very important role. Functions of both Omega-6 and Omega-3 are almost same. Both omega-3 and omega-6 are included to manufacture a signaling molecule which is known as eicosanoids. They have different roles in the human body such as blood clotting, inflammation, etc. Taking large amount of omega-6 neutralize the benefits of it. It should be taken in limited amount. Best health benefits can be gained by consumption of fatty acids must be in a specific amount. Equilibrium among omega-3 and omega-6 is the ratio between them. People prefer taking Omega-6 fatty acids. So ratio between them is disturbed and consumption of Omega-6 is increased. Conclusion: Taking certain amount of omega-3 and omega-6 is considered as the best option for most advantageous health. Eicosanoids are the signaling molecules which are produced by Omega-3 and omega-6. What are the functionalities of Omega-3 Fatty acid? DHA present in Omega-3 fatty acids plays the vital role in the functionalities of retina of eyes and roles of brain. DHA should be taken in enough amounts by the pregnant ladies and mothers for breastfeeding. Health and baby’s brain can be affected with DHA. If adults take Omega-3 fatty acids, there can be health advantages for adults also. All the benefits provided by Omega-3 depend on the amount of DHA and EPA. In the studies, it is proved that omega-3 fatty acid can be helpful in protecting from all the diseases. Depressions, Breast cancer, ADHA, Inflammation are some of the disease which stays away by taking Omega-3 fatty acids. Today’s diet is completely lacking DHA and EPA, so Omega-3 supplements are the option that should be considered. One who doesn’t prefer eating fish must take supplements. This can lead to healthy life. Price compare omega 3 and heart health supplements on filtur.
